Large 4to. 13 x 9.25 inches. 82 + [4] pp., including colophon with limitation statement and signatures. Bound in original pink cloth with black drawings. Lower edges deckled. Pictorial endpapers. A fine copy. Signed by editor and illustrator on colophon page. Loosely inset: Publicity leaflet for the book, [4] pp. folded. Illustrated by full page drawings and text figures by Rigby Graham. The story by Henry James (1842-1916) was first published in 1892 in the Graphic Magazine and was collected in English Hours of 1905 (along with Abbeys and Castles, which it was originally intended to to reprint here as well). This new edition includes a long introduction by Alan Tucker (1933-2017) and the 1989 drawings of Rigby Graham (1931-2015), landscape and topographical artist, for Winchelsea, Rye, with a few made for Abbeys and Castles on the cover and endpapers. Denis Duval was the last and unfinished novel of William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-63), first published 1864.
