8vo. 6.75 x 5 inches. 154 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, front board with blind stamped border enclosing gilt block of spider in web. Colour speckled edges. A very good clean copy. Illustrated by 27 plates in black and white and colour, including frontispiece and by 35 text figures. Pictorial endpapers. First edition of a volume in the well known Wayside and Woodland series appearing from Frederick Warne after 1895. Theodore Horace Savory (1896-1980) was a linguist and arachnologist, author of The Biology of Spiders (1928), Arachnida (1935) and The Spiders and Allied Orders of the British Isles in the Wayside and Woodland series (1935).
