8vo. 6.5 x 4.75 inches. viii + 239 pp. Bound in contemporary dark green cloth, gilt, with black borders and ornaments on front board, enclosing decorative gilt block as on spine. All edges gilt. A little wear to corners and head and tail of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. 1933 gift inscription on front pastedown. Illustrated by engraved portrait frontispiece. Mid-Victorian novel of family life by Mrs Hannah Ransome Geldart (1820-61), author of novels for children and young adults. Following her death, it was completed and edited by her sister, Emma Marshall (1830-99) (At the Circulating Library website). First edition published 1862. An attractive copy.
