FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM. Small 8vo. 7 x 5.25 inches. 108 pp. Quarter green cloth over stiff card printed paper boards. Extremities worn, but otherwise a very good copy with a clean interior. Label of N.S.W.Bookstall Co. Ltd. and 1913 signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 4 colour plates, including frontispiece. All text pages have pink pictorial borders. A humorous work written in a mock Biblical style, describing the ways of women in a manner that would now be considered to be politically incorrect. Gelett Burgess (1866-51), editor, poet and humorist, from Boston, made his literary reputation after moving to San Francisco in the 1890s. He introduced Cubism to the US, invented children's characters called Goops and created the literary term, blurb. Many of his works were later adapted for the screen. Some of the material inj this work was originally published in The Smart Set magazine, !903-06. Attractively illustrated and designed by artist, Louis D. Fancher (1884-1944).
