8vo. &.5 x 5.25 inches. vi + [ii] + 120 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, with black block of the house on front board. Extremities a little worn and spine sunned. Flyleaves foxed, but otherwise a very good copy. Press cutting from Sunday Times 1925 taped to rear pastedown. Illustrated by 9 black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece. Decorated by colophon on verso of title. An account of Chastleton House, Oxfordshire and its history, by Mary Whitmore Jones (c.1923-1915), last female heir of the Chastleton estate. The house was the property of Robert Catesby (1572-1605), later leader of the Gunpowder conspirators, who sold id in 1602. It was later a scene of a famous Civil War episode, after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. It is now a National Trust property.
