8vo. 8 x 5.5 inches. viii + 340 pp. Bound in original dark blue cloth, gilt, in unclipped dust wrapper with some foxing and browning and neatly repaired chips at head and tail of spine which is sunned. Extremities of boards slightly worn, flyleaves and edges a little foxed; otherwise a very good copy. A survey, from a Christian viewpoint of the idea of progress in human history from classical and Biblical times to the views of nineteenth and twentieth century writers such as Gordon Childe.
