Notes

A detailed historical and geographical account of St. Helena, then of topical interest because of the South African War prisoners sent there, by Emily L. Jackson. Chapters include jottings from St. Helena records, including the captivity of Napoleon Bonaparte, 1815-21, the Navy's antislavery patrols of the nineteenth and the island of Tristan Da Cunha. At the end is a statistical section with a detailed list of the Island's civil and military establishments, including the governors and the officers of the warships of the Naval Squadron on patrol in the nearby waters during the South African War. The book concludes with an alphabetical list of the plants of St. Helena.
