FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9.25 x 6.25 inches. xxxviii + [ii] + 376 pp. Bound in original pink cloth, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has slight edge wear and small split at head of spine. Ink mark on lower page edge, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by text figures. A history of how the human imagination produced and experienced the Industrial Revolution, which unfolds through a series of texts. At the beginning is The Images, a chronological list of the selected texts; at the end are the Theme Sequences under broad general headings. The author, Humphrey Jennings (1907-50) was a famous documentary film maker the work was edited by his daughter, Mary-Lou Jennings (1936-2015), historian of Birkbeck College, University of London and Charles Madge (1912-96), co-founder of Mass Observation in 1937.
