8vo. 8 x 5.5 inches. 319 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, with small gilt block on front board, in unclipped pictorial wrapper (series list on rear), with small chips at head and tail of spine, which is slightly darkened. Lower edge rough cut. Board spine foxed and sunned at lower edge and scattered foxing elsewhere; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 4 black and white photographic plates, including frontispiece, numbered in text and by folding map in red and black. Decorated by series device on title page, Account of a visit to China by The Times special correspondent, Peter Fleming (1907-71), adventurer, travel writer and journalist. The first part describes his experiences in Manchukuo, from 1932-45 a puppet state of Japan, and the second part, 'Red China,' in the Communist area. First published 1934 and in the Odyssey Library, 1940.
