This particular issue is missing the top right hand corner with issue no., newspaper stamp and some loss of text; the lower right hand corner is also torn and creased but the legibility of text is only slightly affected.

Notes
Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. The magistrates continued to examine the man accused of the Lewisham murder. Some attention is devoted to a stock of files, centre-bits and plough tools alleged to have been stolen earlier by the defendant, a centre-bit having been found at the scene of the murder after being used to gain access to the house. A fire broke out in the fellmongery buildings of Thomas Bourne of Cranbrook and threatened destruction to the whole range of buildings in the tan yard until with an absence of wind, a plentiful supply of water, the assistance of fire engines, 'added to the very active exertions of the inhabitants,' it was extinguished.
