Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. 'We have devoted a considerable portion of our paper...to an abridged report of the Norfolk Fox dinner. To this we are induced not less by the extraordinary nature of some of the speeches than by the illustrious and noble rank of the principals of the festival.' In the Admiralty Sessions a case was heard against crew members of the brig, Lowestoft in distress off the coast of Lowestoft, who cut away a rope attaching a lifeboat to the vessel, apparently to avoid salvage claims. In Dover Harbour the piles of the South Pier Head having been cut away, the new sluice was reopened 'and the effect it produced was beyond expectation,' the force of the water clearing all the accumulated shingle from the harbour entrance.
