Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and Hop Intelligence and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. News from abroad was concerned with the revolutions in Naples and Portugal. At home two men were executed at Stirling for high treason and at York twenty two men, described as labourers, weavers and cordwainers were sentenced to death for high treason with an expectation of commutation. Caroline of Brunswick, the estranged Queen of George IV, received an address presented by upwards of 3000 seamen who marched in procession. From Canterbury there is an account of an 'unlucky eclaircissement,' at the Rose Inn where a lady failing to return from London to Margate is surprised in bed with a naval captain, a friend of the family, by her husband. A scene ensued which ended in the separation of the of the Lady from the noble Captain, and her removal to another Inn to spend the remainder of the night, and the husband returned to Margate.
