Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. About seven columns are filled with reports of the second and third days of the trial of Orator Hunt at York Assizes in connection with the events of 16 August when the Manchester Yeomanry charged the demonstrators in what became known as the Peterloo Massacre. At Lincoln Assizes a man was found guilty of violating a woman milking her cows and sentenced to death. Several houses were broken into at Wingham in Kent but only half a cheese and a pint were taken and the pot was found abandoned under a hedge.
