Notes

Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn, hop and other commodity prices at the London markets and Canterbury. News from Paris concerns the debate over the proposed amnesty for those who took up arms 'in the rebellion of Napoleon Bonaparte.' A speech from the President of the Agriculture Society on corn prices and profits is reported at length. Nearer home the parish clerk of East Langdon on his way to Dover is dragged from his horse and beaten by footpads in spite of having no money on his person.
