Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Hop Intelligence and Corn Exchange section which supplies corn and other commodity prices. From Canada was reported the news of the death of the Governor General, who had hosted the famous ball in Brussels with the Duchess, on the eve of Waterloo and had been unofficially present on the battlefield. A proclamation by the radical reformer, Arthur Thistlewood is reprinted (he was executed for treason the following year for his part in the Cato Street Conspiracy, a plot to murder the cabinet devised by a police agent provocateur). News from Broadstairs relates an 'unprecedented pursuit and apprehension for felony.' A discharged servant robs a house and then takes the Telegraph coach from Ramsgate to London. A parish official and constable set off in pursuit in a fast post-chaise and eventually overtake and capture the offender and goods, now in a hackney coach, on Westminster Bridge.
