Notes

Original issue of this newspaper containing a fascinating variety of notices and advertisements on the front page; the inside and back pages are a mixture of national and Kentish news and a Corn Exchange section which supplies corn, hop and other commodity prices at the London markets and Canterbury. Overseas news includes reports of the ongoing trial of Marshall Ney in Paris and of General Ochterlony's campaign against the 'Goorkah army.' Barns and corn stacks in Hertfordshire were fired it is believed because of the use of threshing machines by farmers, an event predating the Swing riots, which first broke out in Kent, fifteen years later.
