Notes
A book of private prayers, including poems. In dealing with national events such as The Spanish Armada of 1588, The Gunpowder Treason of 1605, The Martyrdom Of King Charles I, 1649, the Plague of 1665 and the Great Fire of London, the following year, the author also includes historical accounts. All these subjects, except the Plague, are graphically illustrated by woodcuts. John Hall (d.1707) was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and held several London livings. This title was first published in 1672 and appeared in eighteen editions up to about 1750. The thirteenth edition is very scarce and we have been unable to locate any other copies, including in WorldCat. Although dated 1711, page 101 includes a reference to King George, who did not come to the throne until August 1714. It seems likely that the text was updated about this year without resetting the title page. The fourteenth edition did not appear until 1716.
