This copy has been extra illustrated with over forty five newspaper cuttings (dated c.1898 - c.1938) tipped or pasted in; also with illustrated 1930 promotional leaflet for the HMSO RCHME inventory series and an early photographic print of the Royal Naval College from the river. COPAC records library copies published by both Fisher Unwin (as here) and by Marshall Jupp, publisher's of the Half-Holiday series. The practise of granting workers a half holiday on Saturday afternoons became well established in the mid-late nineteenth century. The book was owned by William J. Plessey of Foxearth and it is very probable that it was extra illustrated by him. In the 1891 census return for Foxearth, he is recorded as a thirty two year old curate, born in West Hackney, and living with his wife, two month old daughter, a young nurse for her and a female servant.
