'This book was compiled by me in the year 1745, when the rebels threw our island into the greatest confusion.' In his dedication the author also refers to the recent conquest of Quebec. It is a vitriolic anti-Catholic work largely intended for use in schools and is written in the format of a catechism. Starting with England, Scotland and Ireland it provides a world wide survey of the persecution of Protestants and others by the Catholic church. John Lockman (1698-1771) was a self-taught scholar who became a prolific writer and translator. A scarce title.
