8vo. 7.5 x 6 inches. 62 + [2] pp. publisher's advertisements. Title page in red and black. Bound in green cloth, gilt with gilt block on front board. Bevelled board edges. All page edges gilt. Slight wear to corners and head and tail of spine and offsetting of some text figures on to adjoining pages, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by colour engravings, including frontispiece, including text figures and title page. Decorated by chapter heading and endpiece vignettes. An essay by Charles Lamb (1775-1834), taken from one of his best known works, Essays of Elia, first published in book form in 1823. Illustrated by Charles Oliver Murray (1842-1923), Scottish artist and printmaker and engraved in colour by Robert Paterson (fl.1860-99), wood engraver and reproductive etcher, who worked in Edinburgh and later London. A fine copy of this scarce edition.
